Why RHA is important to me

The Regional Health Authority (RHA) election is being held May 14, in conjunction with the District Education Council (DEC) and the Municipal Elections. I have chosen to place my name on the ballot for the RHA subsection B6. This is includes the geography of Fredericton, New Maryland, Oromocto, Gagetown, Cambridge Narrows, Minto, Chipman, Doaktown, Upper Miramichi, Stanley. For anglophone New Brunswick, the RHA is Horizon Health Network, encompassing Miramichi, Woodstock, Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton. Horizon Health Network is run by a management team on behalf of a board of directors. This is the first election that board members will be elected. There will be 8 board members elected and [...]

Earth Day #cleanupfred

at Queen Square

In celebration of Earth Day, I participated in the Discarded Comfort Cleanup Crew, helping to document the event as part of #cleanupfred. This worthwhile affair came to be, as part of an ongoing photo project by Chafic Haddad. The Discarded Comfort project is a photo project, designed to raise aware of the amount of coffee cups people drop wherever in their daily business. The stray, lonely coffee cup shown in stark contrast to its surroundings, places it doesn’t belong. Rather than leave the discarded cups behind, Chafic started picking up the cups and the idea snowballed into an Earth Day event. With a kickoff at Wilser’s Room, around 60 people [...]

Family Doctor

I am Doug Mullin, running to be elected Board Member for the Regional Health Authority  Subsection B6. The geography of this section encompasses Fredericton to Doaktown, Upper Miramichi to Cambridge Narrows, Stanley to Chipman & Minto, and certainly not least, Oromocto and New Maryland. In my previous post, I stated that I am relatively healthy. To be very truthful, I don’t know that. I have assumed that because I feel well. I am coming to the age in life where I should be consulting a doctor regarding my general health. For example, prostrate cancer is a leading killer, which can be defeated through early detection. The Prostrate Cancer Canada network [...]

Doug Mullin For Regional Health Authority B6

I am Doug Mullin, running for the Regional Health Authority election to represent Subsection B6. If elected, this means I would serve on the Board of Directors for Horizon Health Network. I want to represent your concerns as your Board Member. I am choosing to run because I am a relatively healthy person. I have no medical problems of which I am aware. However, I hear friends and acquiantances complain about problems in our health care system. I want to be a part of the solution. I want our system to be well-managed and accessible to all. My health issues are structural issues, of primary concern: 1. access to family medicine. [...]

#theconversation @ashleyjudd

Last evening I have read a wonderful piece of writing by Ashley Judd. Check out the article at the Daily Beast here. Her piece decries the “reduction of personhood to simple physical objectification.” She continues “Our voices, our personhood, our potential, and our accomplishments are regularly minimized and muted.” Let me first say to all the women I have ever met, I am sorry if I have done this. I try to value your personhood. Please call me out if I fail. I want to try harder. Judd calls our society, our culture out over patriarchy. She says “Patriarchy is not men. Patriarchy is a system in which both women [...]

At the time of this post, 44 years ago, there was a gunshot. The victim was civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. This assassination of a great man, dedicated non-violent activist and advocate for justice and equality affected a nation, the world as well. By 7:05pm Memphis time, the great Martin Luther King Jr. was pronounced dead. Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him. Amen! What famous personality inspires you? The Angel, The Woman and the Promise

The Angel, The Woman and the Promise

A small preface: I have written poetry on rare occasion. I was about to delete this from Facebook when it dawned on me to share it with you. Good or bad, it tells the story of the Annunciation. As Gabriel worshiped around the throne of heaven, He felt a touch on the shoulder, He turned and saw the Lord. “What do you want me to do, My Lord?” The Lord responded, “It is time for the promise” “Yes, Lord. I am ready.” Gabriel set out for Nazareth, a small town in Galilee He inquired of the people “Where is the girl, Mary, son of Heli?” The people wondered who is [...]

Political Lefty

Political Lefty

Hey, did you know that there are people on the political left who are religious? If you didn’t, allow me the pleasure of being the first you meet. I am a self-identified religious political lefty. I am a member of the New Democratic Party. We are social democrats with our party’s roots in the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF). The CCF was active on Canada from the early 1930s until the early 1960s. One of the provincial sections of the CCF became the party of government in 1944. If you research this, you’ll find the CCF in Wikipedia listed with a political ideology of democratic socialism. To quote Wikipedia regarding Saskatchewan [...]
