The Regional Health Authority (RHA) election is being held May 14, in conjunction with the District Education Council (DEC) and the Municipal Elections.
I have chosen to place my name on the ballot for the RHA subsection B6. This is includes the geography of Fredericton, New Maryland, Oromocto, Gagetown, Cambridge Narrows, Minto, Chipman, Doaktown, Upper Miramichi, Stanley.
For anglophone New Brunswick, the RHA is Horizon Health Network, encompassing Miramichi, Woodstock, Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton. Horizon Health Network is run by a management team on behalf of a board of directors. This is the first election that board members will be elected. There will be 8 board members elected and 7 appointed. The elected board members will represent different regions, such as B6.
Being elected to the Board of Directors of Horizon Health Network is important to me for the following reasons:
- I believe that the people of New Brunswick need representatives on the Board that will listen to them and voice their concerns regarding the provision of health care in New Brunswick.
- Though I do not have a background in health care management, I am experienced in sales and hospitality. I can listen to people and voice their concerns, being their representative. I have been able to achieve to university level degrees in the varied subjects of theology and political science. I can learn what is needed to understand and manage our health care organization.
- Seeing the process by which my parents had to follow in order to get my Dad into a nursing home, (to provide care for him and a diagnosis of Alzheimers), and maneuvering the process to get a family doctor in my chosen home of Fredericton, I understand the frustrations of people dealing with the system. I want to learn how we can better serve New Brunswick, by providing exceptional healthcare in a timely fashion.
People want a listening ear and compassionate representative. They want someone who can be there with them, through the good times and the bad times. I want to be that representative.
Vote Doug for Regional Health Authority Subsection B6.
