Writing for the sake of writing, being a writer, writing for myself, writing for a paper, writing for an audience, being paid to write has been a dream of mine for a while. I have been blogging off and on for years. But never consistently enough to make myself better. More a way of procrastinating from the possibility of success.
I am committing to 31 days of writing, following the challenge extended by Jeff Goins. Jeff is a writer who has committed himself to helping other writer succeed in achieving their dreams One way he does it is through a free challenge like this. Another way is the Tribewriters course.
2014 was a year of change and transition. I come to realize that sometimes getting the work hours you want means the tradeoff of getting a job you don’t like. I was a candidate for the NDP in New Brunswick. My candidacy was in Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin. It was a last minute decision that saw me become the candidate. The riding of Miramichi Bay-Neguac was able to vote for a locally based aboriginal candidate. I was happy to support him.
During the campaign, I had a job interview in my hometown. My mom was generous enough to let me move back home. It has been a better transition than I was expecting, back home living with mom, my sister and two cats. The cats didn’t know what to make of me. Even three months later, they still run away when I walk in the room, just not everytime like they did before I moved home.
I have been enjoying the new job, even as it is less money that my last few jobs. It has more satisfaction for me, than the last job. I’m also trying to establish myself a photographer within New Brunswick. Since moving home, I have had jobs in Moncton, Fredericton and Miramichi. All came to me because of relationships, old and new.
And my blog, Black-Capped, is something I really want to establish. It is a blog about Celebrating New Brunswick // Le Nouveau-Brunswick Célèbre. It is about the people of New Brunswick, the interesting things they are doing and the places they love.
So if you’re from New Brunswick, expect me to be contacting you. I may like to write about what you doing. and you, for you are interesting. The world and New Brunswick needs to meet the interesting people living within borders. The world and New Brunswick needs to know the interesting things the interesting people are doing. Our province is beautiful. The world needs to see it. and the people of New Brunswick need a reminder to protect it.
Chasing dreams is never too late. Being a photographer was a dream I had as a teenager. I never thought it would be more than a dream, or a hobby. Be a writer is another dream. So the challenge of writing 500 words everyday for 31 days is a great way of making that dream a reality.
